Abstract

The article explains why a person sees the network of his retinal capillaries against the background of a cloudy sky when bringing his eye close to a rotating cardboard with a pinhole. The author says that it is a fascinating phenomenon known as Purkinje shadows, named after the Czech physiologist and neuroanatomist Jan Evangelista Purkinje.
