Abstract: The article discusses the development of the pharmaceutical industry in India. It states that the pharmaceutical companies in the country have been known primarily as the generic drug makers in the world. Companies such as Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. and Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. are joining the drug discovery and development race. In addition, the two firms are banking on their tenacity and ability to quickly adapt to new markets to edge their way in among the more established pacesetters.
