Abstract: The article focuses on the closure of Novozymes AS hyaluronic acid plant in Shandong province, China. The plant produces this acid through Streptococcus bacteria fermentation and employs 132 people. It was brought in 2006 to complement its existing Bacillus-based production. However, it has encountered price erosion in the dietary supplement market and a low-growth prospect in technical market. It hopes to develop its Bacillus products for high-end applications.
