Abstract
- It could be said that the mere presence of Canadian First Nations and Aboriginal (FNA) students in mainstream universities is remarkable in light of historical and contemporary adversities. Despite persistent challenges and hurdles, however, FNA students continue to pursue post-secondary education in a variety of disciplines including counselling. This paper identifies common challenges encountered by FNA counselling students and suggests ways to promote the academic success of this student population. To that end personal, contextual, academic, and clinical challenges are identified and examined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
