Abstract

The article discusses Kosovo, Serbia's struggle for being recognized as a nation with an individual identity. Organizers of a contest to design their national flag said that the flag should reflect the multi-ethnic population. Though Kosovo is preparing for its independence, incoming Prime Minister Hashim Thaci says that a Kosovo identity does not exist. Albanian Muslims form a large majority of the population. Political analysts see the merging of Albanians and Serbs as a very difficult step.
