Abstract

The article discusses pianist and Holocaust survivor Alice Herz-Sommer. Herz-Sommer grew up in Prague and survived camp Theresienstadt, also known as Terezin, where the Jews who were sent there from 1941 to 1945 were musicians. She recalls playing at least 100 concerts there with the Nazis using them as propaganda. On Saturday, November 3, 2007, a free concert at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City honored Herz-Sommer's 104th birthday and paid tribute to the dead at Terezin.
