Abstract
- The article focuses on the difficulties faced by health care providers in recruiting nurses and physicians to practice medicine in remote and isolated areas in the U.S. While 19% of the U.S. population live in rural areas, only 17% of the nation's physicians practice in those communities. The rural population in general is poorer than people in urban settings and it is older, which means its health care needs are greater.
