Abstract

In the present article, some ideas will be exposed on the tragic feeling, understood as an aesthetic category that includes some important aspects of the narrative. In the first section, the category of tragedy is introduced and its relation with the characters. Closing the article, we will speak of Maqroll el Gaviero, the central character of the saga, and those objective aspects that relate it to the tragic heroes as they are in exile, solitude and have a lack of communication. Although, these aspects, already have been studied in the work of Alvaro Mutis, from an aesthetic category of the negation (the deterioration), this linguistic category anchor in the external elements and resources that the poet uses to designate the dark reality in which the characters are sunk. However, the tragedy goes far more still: it assumes the elements of the deterioration as fundamental pillars of the human experience, but it is centered in the conscience of the character in front of them and not in the factual manifestation of the misery like a motor of the artistic creation. In other words, the tragedy as opposed to the overflow of misery and the decay through the intellectual subliming of the character, demonstrated in its reflections and attitudes of the universe in a continuous deterioration.
