Abstract

The article focuses on understanding the precise meaning of infant's cries. It is noted that by about 3 weeks of age, parents will distinguish the baby's cries, from hunger, mild distress, pain or the simple "come pick me up" boredom. It is further explained that the baby gradually spells out the difference between one cry and another with facial expression and body language. Information on "end-of-the-day fussing" which the baby experience at about 8 weeks is also discussed.
