Abstract

The article focuses the voyages of William Bligh in transferring breadfruit from Tahiti to the West Indian plantations of Saint Vincent and Jamaica. It is pointed out that these voyages are the most famous in the Colonial history and is also well documented. Accordingly, it took two tries for the breadfruit to reach Jamaica and St. Vincent where in the first boatload of plants got only as far as the Friendly Islands. Detailed discussion regarding on the voyages of William Bligh along with the construction of the boats which carries the breadfruits are presented.
