Towards Understanding Different Spatial and Temporal Scales.

Through the illustration of five examples of recent work, I try to show the interplay that exists between the macroscopic description of the physical chemistry properties and dynamics of molecules and the insight that can be obtained by atomistic simulations. The difficulties and problems of bridging the gaps between the different scales with atomistic simulations are highlighted with the general intent of trying to assess at which point in time or in space the continuum or engineering type of treatment switches to the discrete level.
