Abstract
- The article offers information on the three factors that help shape the civil-military relations in four North African countries, in Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, and Algeria. These factors include the military's role in political affairs, the military's acknowledgement of the language of nationalism for personal interests, and the fact that the armed forces take part in building the nation. It is noted that no military dictatorships have resulted from these four countries perhaps because of the combination of the strong rivals to the military within civilian leadership and the political traditions.
