Abstract

The article examines how arts can be employed in participatory social research on poor working class women in Merseyside, England. The results of the Sure Start program, a research conducted by the Economic and Social Research Council, claims to have a greater access to a variety of health, social and educational services. It also aims to reduce inequalities and end child poverty in the whole area. Moreover, it also celebrates the capabilities, talents and creativity of the poor working-class women and understands that women are not helpless and hopeless victims of poverty. It also proved to be an emotional project in the subject matter of the project, relationships cultivated, self-discovery of participants and the perception of the findings.
