Abstract

Burkholderia pseudomallei soil isolates from northeast Thailand were genotyped using multiple-locus variable-number tandem repeat (VNTR) analysis (MLVA) and multilocus sequence typing (MLST). MLVA identified 19 genotypes within three clades, while MLST revealed two genotypes. These close genetic relationships imply a recent colonization followed by localized expansion, similar to what occurs in an outbreak situation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
