Abstract
- The article reports on the anniversary of the failed coup attempt by the State Committee for the State of Emergency (SCSE) to overthrow Mikhail Gorbachev in Russia on August 19 to 21, 1991. Poll findings in 2007 indicate that most Russians continue to be indifferent to the 1991 coup attempt. Political activists lamented the failure of democratic efforts in Russia when they commemorated the anniversary of the SCSE coup in 2007.
