Abstract

The article assesses the implementation of police reform as a spearhead for wider peacebuilding adopted by Australia in its intervention in the Solomon Islands since 2003. It cites that the intervention called Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) involves an executive policing mission to restore law and order and a development mission to endow the local police with the capability of maintaining it. It discusses the practices employed by the Australian initiative called the International Deployment Group (IDG) in the Solomon Islands.
