Abstract

Objective. The aim of this study was to determine the basic clinical characteristics of the lymphomas in a Mexican population, as well as the different morphological subtypes and their immunophenotype. Method. All the hematolymphoid neplasms with immunostains were retrieved from the files of the departments of pathology of the Hospital Central Militar, Hospital Español and CEDEHO, from January 1999 through November 2006. They were classified within two groups. Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL); NHL were subclassified in B and T cells, according to the WHO classification. The clinical information submitted in each case was also examined. Results. 1,047 hematolymphoid neoplasm were retrived; from these, 898 (85.76%) correspond to NHL, 146 (13.94%) to HL, and 3 (0.28%) to null type. From NHL, the immunophenotype B was the most frequent, and from this, the type most common was diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. From HL, the subtype most frequent was nodular sclerosis. There was a predominance of males, with 555 cases (53%) in men, and 492 cases (47%) in women, with a relation of 1.2:1. The average of edge was 41.3 years, and the location most frequent was lymph nodes. Conclusions. The behavior of lymphomas in our study is very similar to worldwide literature, as well as the necessity of carrying out immunostains for the diagnosis of lymphomas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
