Unearthing the past, endangering the future.

The article focuses on the strained relations between the U.S. and Turkey. A U.S. House resolution calling the massacre of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during World War I "genocide" has infuriated the Turkish government. At the same time, Turkey's Parliament voted to authorize military incursions into northern Iraq against the Kurdish separatist militia PPK which stages attacks on Turkey from bases in that country. Both actions are needless provocations of allies with many mutual interests.
