Abstract
- The article focuses on "The Canadian Record" in Hemphill County, Texas, which is operated by the Ezzell family. Ben Ezzell bought the newspaper in 1956 and it would eventually pass to his daughter Laurie Ezzell Brown. Ezzell attended a meeting of the John Birch Society in 1961 and wrote an editorial of the group's founder Robert Welch that received national attention. After publishing an anti-Vietnam war editorial in a 1971 edition the newspaper's office was attacked. Ezzell wrote about his experiences in his book "The Editor's Ass."
