Abstract
- Educational programs in the book arts and book crafts now take the place of traditional apprenticeships. These programs provide students with wide experience spanning printing, papermaking and book work while they also introduce current materials and techniques of the graphic arts. Though lacking the intensity and career commitments of the traditional apprenticeship these programs now provide access to professional fields of library preservation, book studies and specialty book production. The panelists described the current community of educational programs and their various sponsoring institutions. University of Iowa student Steven Tatum provided the bibliography at the end of this paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
