Abstract

The work of Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) resides primarily in the discursive fields of religious studies, theology and existential philosophy. The political theory of Kierkegaard is not generally emphasized and the environmental political theory of Kierkegaard is nearly nonexistent. This paper attempts to rectify this situation by transplanting Kierkegaard from the normative discursive fields of religious studies, theology and philosophy into the normative discourse that is environmental political theory. It will be shown that Kierkegaard's emphases on the passionate individual, the aesthetic nature of the institutions of his generation, and the transformative value of despair and dread, situate him decidedly in the discourse of environmental political theory and require further that he be seen as an asset to its goals, mission and social critiques. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
