Abstract
- This paper uses the 2005 mayoral elections in New York and Los Angeles uses ecological regression analysis to examine patterns of turnout and candidate choice across various native born and immigrant ethnic groups. Important differences are found across and within the larger categories of white, black, Latino, and Asian groupings and between New York and LA. Paradoxically, the city that provides the greatest access of new immigrant groups to the lowest rung of the political system, representation on the city council, did not produce a Latino victory in the mayoral election. Possible reasons for this outcome are considered. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
