Abstract

The article examines the relationship of the philosophical studies of Josiah Royce to Asian thought. In his book "The Philosophy of Loyalty," Royce showed his fascination on the ethical life of Japanese Samurai. According to Royce, his views written in this book about the cultivation of self-possession and serenity of the soul were influenced by Chinese sages and Buddhistic traditions. In "Sources of Religious Insight" and in "The Problem of Christianity," Royce penned his understanding of Buddhism. In the tenth chapter of his "Problem of Christianity," Royce tells the advantages of interfaith dialogue. Here, he recommended the simplification of Christology.
