Symposium conclusions and reflections.

This article presents a summary of some conclusions drawn from discussions at a symposium on Drainage Basin Security -- Balancing Production, Trade and Water Use. Drought and dry spells throughout the world are placing emphasis on the development of international plans for integrated water resources management. Climate variability has made it necessary to adopt plans to develop adaptive mechanisms such as water harvesting and subsurface dams. Drainage basin management and security will require the development of local and national policy and development plans.
