Abstract
- The article examines if geographic constituency alterations impact legislators' behavior ex post by taking advantage of the changes in congressional districts in the decennial redistricting process. The authors noted that legislators are less likely to remain in office when their districts are altered, however this effect is small in relative terms. The results may reflect strategic behavior on the part of party organizations that either ask candidates to resign or threaten to withhold support should they choose to seek reelection.
