Abstract

This editorial comments on the efforts to make sure resource poor countries get the medicines they need but caution that the programs do not have processes for monitoring drug safety in these populations. Although many of the drugs have been used in developed countries that is no guarantee they will work the same in the developing population. The author calls for the help of private groups to monitor the drugs used by reporting side effects to the World Health Organization.
