Abstract

The article examines U.S. medical assistance programs in Sub-Saharan Africa administered by the Agency for International Development (AID). The Malaria Prevention Initiative spends over $1 billion a year to control malaria, the region's largest public health problem. The Child Survival and Health Programs Fund is involved with all areas of children's health including nutrition and maternity care programs.
