Abstract

The article reports on the investigation of the I-35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Forensic engineers are working under intense river conditions aided by a high-tech menu of investigative gear and a finite element analysis program modeled after failure scenarios. They are studying old documents bearing architectural blueprints of the bridge. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the federal investigation.
