Abstract

This article discusses how the cost aspects that follow natural disasters exceed the ability of the insurance industry to pay for repairs. The article discusses Kamp Re insurance bonds, catastrophe lessons studied and learned from the disaster of the Titanic, and the Wall Street investors who benefit financially from natural disasters. The article introduces John Seo of Westport, Connecticut, who persuades investors to purchase catastrophe insurance, known as “cat bonds,” to protect themselves against natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana.
