Abstract

This article states that Boeing Co. is planning to spend several hundred million more dollars to ensure it stays on schedule for first commercial delivery in spring 2008 three weeks after rolling out the 787 Dreamliner. The company will pony up another $300 million for 787 research and development (R&D) in 2007, a 9% increase, and warns it may have to spend more than expected in 2008. Boeing has hiked R&D spending by $1.4 billion since early 2006, largely to fund risk mitigation and contingency plans to keep the 787's development schedule on track.
