El tratamiento de la crisis migrañosa.

The knowledge of the right treatment of migranous crisis is an obligation tor physicians. Although the management of this event has evolved since the introduction of newer, more specific compounds, i. e. the triptans, "traditional" measures like ergot derivatives, OTC analgesics or other drugs alike, still have a role in the acute therapy of migraine. Although great advances have been made In this field, lack of adequate information is highly prevalent not only among the general population, but among doctors as well. The treatment of acute migraine must include a correct and accurate diagnosis, a careful evaluation of the patient and a series of decisions about the drugs to be used. This article reviews the different measures used to terminate a migranous attack taking in view of recent hypothesis about the pathophysiology of migraine. Special emphasis is made on the triptans and its clinical use.
