Abstract
- The article discusses whether lower-body negative pressure (LBNPex) would protect against loss of upright exercise (VO2peak) and sprint performance during a 30-day bed rest. Participants were divided into a control group (CON) who do not perform exercise, and the other was assigned to an exercise group (EX) wherein they performed an upright graded exercise test to volitional fatigue and sprint test, during and after bed rest. The results indicated that the VO2peak was decreased and sprint time was increased in the CON participants but was maintained in the EX participants. Researchers concluded that exercise countermeasure protocol may help in the prevention of microgravity-induced deconditioning during space flight.
