Reading Phase Diagrams.

The article discusses the use of phase diagrams to asses the thermal properties of ceramic materials. A standard phase diagram listing temperature ranges and various proportions of compounds or substances used in ceramic materials is presented. The diagram is divided in various areas with unique physical and chemical properties. An interpretation of graphical lines representing liquid and solid phases of mixtures is presented. A three dimensional version of the diagram is also presented to illustrate phase changes when all oxides in ceramic materials interact.
