Abstract
- Information on the history of popular music in Manchester, England, taken from chapter 6 of the book "Continuum Encyclopedia of the Popular Music of the World," is presented. According to the author, little pre-industrial folk music has survived the region because of the dislocation caused by the process of industrialization. However, a number of annual folk customs and rituals were preserved such as clog dancing. Meanwhile, the black music scene did not often overlap with its pop and rock activities .
