Abstract
- A discussion on popular music in Romania, from Chapter 5 of the book "Continuum Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World," is presented. It describes the two main musical traditions in the country until the end of the 18th century, namely folk and liturgical music. It discusses popular music genres in the 19th- and 20th-centuries, including muzica populară and muzică uşoară. It looks at the Communist government's music policy from 1947-1962.
