Abstract: A discussion on popular music in Macedonia, from Chapter 5 of the book "Continuum Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World," is presented. It describes Macedonian folk music and mentions common folk instruments, including the gaida, kaval, and tapan. It discusses two distinct periods in the development of Macedonian pop and rock music and cites popular rock bands. It also discusses the popularity of jazz and brass bands in the country.
