Abstract

A discussion on popular music in Bosnia-Herzegovina, from Chapter 5 of the book "Continuum Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World," is presented. It discusses transformations in the performance of sevdalinka, a traditional form of music, and serenada. It identifies the factors that influenced novokomponovana narodna muzika or newly composed folk music. It reveals Western popular music that appeared after World War II as well as the birth of Sarajevo pop & rock school.
