Abstract

Information on the development of popular music in Georgia from chapter 3 of the book "Continuum Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World" is presented. It states that urban folklore is an inseparable part of the ancient tradition of Georgian folk music. It is inferred that the development of Georgian urban music is closely linked with specific periods in the history of Georgia. The hard rock band Quadrant, in the early 1970s, was the focus of a short-lived rock movement in T'bilisi that was forced to disband by Soviet authorities.
