Abstract

Information on the development of popular music in Poland from chapter 2 of the book "Continuum Encyclopedia of Popular Music of the World" is presented. It is inferred that the Polish traditional music has been renowned for its internationally known dances, the mazurka, polonez and polka. Popular music in the country from the 1950s was forced to develop under the watchful eye of government censors and the police. It states that media explosion made it much easier for international trends to influence Polish musicians.
