Abstract
- This article discusses the history of two Spanish expeditions that almost united the eastern and western southern states of what is now the United States. The author describes an expedition led by Fancisco Vázquez de Coronado into present-day New Mexico and another by Hernando de Soto from present-day Florida up the Mississippi River. The author states that an Indian slave women who escaped from the former party was picked up by the latter explorer, providing a link between the two expeditions.
