Abstract
- The article provides an overview of the ceramic/print movement, its background and motivations, and some of the techniques employed by artists in this field. According to the author, the earliest recorded use of clay as a medium to convey print is to be found in the Near East dated from around 3000BC in the form of cuneiform writing. He states that the decision to combine clay and text was made on functional grounds and that cuneiform and Islamic texts are two examples of ancient traditions that combined the printed image and clay.
