Abstract

The article reports on the study on the utility of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the nuclear ribosomal DNA in pines. The ITS region is used as a marker to determine hybridization in pines, since it has been proven to be an efficient source of characters for phylogenetic research. Through the assistance of the Institute of Forest Genetics, 14 individuals of certain hybrids and matching parental lines were observed, species including the Pinus flexilis and P. strobiformis. Information regarding the polymerase chain reaction amplifications of the ITS area is also presented.
