Abstract
- The article reports on the discovery by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) scientists that a substantial amount of mercury has already entered the ocean from groundwater flowing out of underground aquifers near the coast of the U.S. According to WHOI marine chemist Matt Charette and former undergraduate summer student fellow at WHOI Sharon Bone, the entrance of mercury through this pathway has long been overlooked and ignored because it was difficult to quantify. For full details, their findings was published in the May 2007 issue of "Environmental Science and Technology."
