Abstract

The article focuses on the traditional logography of business names in Australia. Prior to computer technology, such logography was manually crafted by dedicated sign-writers through brush on steel, brick, timber, and glass. Such design was found to be unique based on the color, style, and the way they were done. Such ways were derived from the creativity of such designers due to the absence of colored magazines and television (TV) as a means of advertising of products. The signs involved enamel signs, which were said to be costly as it had cost $15,000 - $18,000 each. Evolutions during the 1900s involved the appointment of gifted artists to add pictures and beautification to advertisers' signs. The older designs are considered the best signs in Australia since they were hand-paintings.
