Abstract

The article presents information on a study on the prevalence of non-fatal suicide attempts in black Americans. The subjects for the study included 5191 black American adults aged 18 years or above, who completed the National Survey of American Life (NSAL), a nationally representative household survey. The results showed that out of 100 non-institutionalized black Americans, 12 report having had non-fatal suicidal ideation and 4 report having had non-fatal suicide attempts.
