Abstract

The article focuses on the reasons behind the decision of Great Britain to sign the Treaty of Union with Scotland. The author contends that Britain's decision to negotiate the Treaty of Union with Scotland is closely associated with political economic considerations. Scotland is seen by Britain, which lacked the manpower to fight war and expand empire, as a ready reservoir and can guarantee access to colonies. The author points that Britain had the negotiating advantage under the treaty.
