Abstract
- The article reports on the plan of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to create two research centers that will focus on biofuels development. According to the author, the project, which has a budget allocation of $25 million a year in a span of five years, will be composed of multidisciplinary teams that will study the existing and emerging developments of biofuels. In addition, the scope of the research will focus on basic studies of microbes, their development and fermentation processes. Stanford University plant biochemist Chris Somerville stated that DOE's change of priority is anticipated to generate more developments in research projects.
