Abstract

The article presents a study that investigates students' reason for studying medicine which was conducted at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. The study focused on the data collected from qualitative methods, the focus groups and interviews. It found out that students' reasons for studying medicine range from an interest in biology, family factors, status, financial gain, job security and mostly altruistic reasons.
