Abstract
- The article examines the ratings performance of the television evening news program "The CBS Evening News With Katie Couric." Ratings for the program for the first week of May 2007 were its lowest in 20 years. Couric expresses optimism. Couric's public image is said to have conflicted with an audience appetite for breaking news due to the war in Iraq and the 2006 elections. Couric has received a large amount of personal criticism. CBS is said to be focusing on long-term gains for the program.
