Abstract: The article focuses on the efforts by Iraqi government to reconcile Sunnis and Shiites. Announcement by Iraq Prime Minister, Nuri Kamal al-Maliki to introduce a modification in the law that restricts members of the Baath Party of Saddam Husein from holding government jobs is a step in this direction. Zalmay Khalilzad, the American ambassador to Iraq, who had served in Iraq for 21 months, emphasized to move with certain pace to sustain the U.S. support.
